REHEARSALS BEGIN FOR PINK SARI REVOLUTION

Wed 13 Sep 2017

A cast of talented actors and an award-winning creative team have arrived at Leicester’s Curve theatre to begin rehearsals for the world premiere of Pink Sari Revolution.

Billed as ‘An explosive new drama’, the production takes place in India’s rural Uttar Pradesh province and portrays the real story of India’s notorious ‘Gulabi Gang’, a feminist movement led by the fearsome Sampat Pal.

Joining Curve Associate Director Suba Das, Curve Associate Artist Aakash Odedra, Designer Isla Shaw and writer Purva Naresh in the studio are actors Goldy Notay, Munir Khairdin, Ronak Patani, Sharan Phull, Syreeta Kumar and Ulrika Krishnamurti.

With universal themes such as the oppression of women and female empowerment explored throughout the production, a series of workshops have been created at Curve with Spark Artist in Residence Parmjit Sagoo for women in community groups around Leicestershire. These workshops have been facilitated by sponsorship from Leicester-based solicitors Glynis Wright and Co.

Pink Sari Revolution is a co-production between Curve, Belgrade Theatre Coventry and West Yorkshire Playhouse, in association with English Touring Theatre. Supported by British Council UK/IN 2017 and Arts Council England’s Reimagine fund, the production will begin its UK tour at Curve 27 Sep – 7 Oct.
