Mercury Musical Developments, Musical Theatre Network & Curve announce The Cameron Mackintosh Resident Composer
Mercury Musical Developments, Musical Theatre Network and Curve, Leicester, are delighted to announce that Tasha Taylor Johnson will be The Cameron Mackintosh Resident Composer at Curve.
Tasha Taylor Johnson, Composer, said: “I’m so thrilled to have been given this amazing opportunity by the Cameron Mackintosh Resident Composer Scheme and to have such an innovative creative team put their faith in me for the next 6 months at Curve, Leicester. I will be knuckling down to some good old fashioned graft and can’t wait to be part of making the magic!”
Chris Stafford, Chief Executive and Nikolai Foster, Artistic Director at Curve, said: “We are thrilled Tasha Taylor Johnson will be our Cameron Mackintosh Resident Composer here at Curve. Tasha blew us away with her verve, passion and musical expertise. Like us, Tasha has an eye on creating theatre which engages new and diverse audiences, exploring boundary-busting ways to create work.
“In a talented field of candidates, Tasha excelled and it’s a delight to welcome her to our team. We couldn’t be more grateful to Cameron Mackintosh for this scheme and his ongoing support of our work here in Leicester.”
Through this scheme musical theatre composers are paired with a venue, and given the opportunity to be involved in a range of work which could include underscoring plays, setting text to music or creating their own piece of new work. Recent venues have included West Yorkshire Playhouse, Royal Shakespeare Company, Bristol Old Vic, the Mercury, Colchester and New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich. Tasha Taylor Johnson is the fourth of five placements that MTN and MMD will be facilitating over 2015-18 thanks to the generosity of the Cameron Mackintosh Foundation.
