Hastings Direct sponsors £10 tickets to The Color Purple
Hundreds of additional £10 tickets to see Curve’s summer production of hit Broadway musical The Color Purple are available thanks to Hastings Direct.
As part of a shared commitment to the communities of Leicester and Leicestershire, the reduced-price tickets will be available to audience members with low income, bookers under the age of 26 and first-time theatre attenders.
Curve, a registered charity with a commitment to making theatre accessible to all, already offers a number of £10 tickets to all of its Made at Curve productions. Support from local insurance provider Hastings Direct will enable the theatre to offer extra £10 seats to those who might not otherwise be able to attend.
Speaking about the announcement, Curve’s Chief Executive Chris Stafford and Artistic Director Nikolai Foster said:
“At Curve we believe passionately theatre only succeeds when it is truly accessible and available to everybody in our community. The Color Purple is a play which celebrates inclusivity and diverse communities, triumph over great adversity. It is therefore fitting our £10 ticket scheme, so generously supported by Hastings Direct, will enable hundreds of young people and those not normally able to access theatre, a chance to see these astonishing actors perform this life-affirming story. Hastings Direct have been incredibly supportive of our ambitions to ensure Curve’s doors always remain open to all and we are incredibly grateful to Andrea, her team and this great organisation for this immense generosity.”
Andrea Gray, Operations Director at Hastings Direct said:
“Hastings Direct is delighted to be sponsoring the £10 ticket scheme at Curve. It’s important to us to support and be an active member of the Leicester community so we are thrilled to be giving so many people the opportunity to go to the theatre this summer. Throughout the year our colleagues work to provide practical and financial help to many good causes and charities within Leicestershire as well as working with local schools, colleges and universities, in the area.”
The Color Purple, based on the best-selling book by Alice Walker, is a Curve and Birmingham Hippodrome co-production and will run in Leicester from 28 Jun – 13 Jul. Directed by Tinuke Craig, the Tony Award-winning musical includes a moving score drawing inspiration from jazz, ragtime, gospel and blues and follows heroine Celie as she finds empowerment in racially divided southern America.
