CURVE YOUNG COMPANY TO PERFORM AT VICTORIA PARK WAR MEMORIAL
Nine young people from Curve Young Company (CYC) are to perform a series of original monologues and poems based on the theme of conflict at the Victoria Park war memorial on Saturday 2 April, 1pm.
Aged 12 – 15 years, the youngsters have been working on the pieces across the past 10 weeks as part of a spring CYC project based on the new drama Wipers – by acclaimed playwright Ishy Din – honouring the contribution of the million South Asian soldiers who fought alongside their British comrades during the First World War.
CYC Director John Berkavitch commented:
“Each of the nine pieces developed by these young people are very different, but are unified by the same starting point of conflict. Whilst some have developed ideas relevant to their own experiences as teenagers, others have developed character based pieces set in the time of the First World War.”
The young people will also be joined by the cast of Wipers, who will each be reading selected war poems as part of the performance.
