CURVE TO HOST THE LORD LIEUTENANT OF LEICESTERSHIRE’S CONCERT TO COMMEMORATE THE CENTENARY OF WW1
On 2 October, Leicester’s Curve theatre will be hosting Pack Up Your Troubles the Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire’s Concert to commemorate the centenary of the First World War.
Pack Up Your Troubles follows the stories from Leicester and Leicestershire during 1914 – 18, recalled through the music, songs, poetry, photography and art of the era.
Local choirs, performers and dancers will join presenters from BBC Radio Leicester for a night of nostalgia with music from Gustav Holst to Irving Berlin; Jerusalem to Tipperary; Edward Elgar to Marie Lloyd.
Performers will include The Simpletones, The Enderby Brass Band, Curve Young Company, Jazz saxophonist Ed Barker, Tenor David Morris, Soprano Jenny Saunders and Leicester performer Elaine Pantling plus many more.
Audio recordings from the BBC Radio Leicester archives will also retell the extraordinary and personal accounts from local people who fought and lived through WW1, both in the trenches and at home.
Pack Up Your Troubles is presented by Applause in conjunction with Curve and BBC Radio Leicester for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire Jennifer, Lady Gretton, JP commented:
“In the centenary year of the Great War, this concert is dedicated to the memory of those from Leicester and Leicestershire who served their country, and also to those who lived through the war right here at home. The celebratory evening will give thanks through music, song and poetry, performed by many of our county’s most acclaimed musicians.”
Show tickets cost £15, with discounted tickets available for ex-service members.
Pre-show, Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire Jennifer, Lady Gretton, JP is also hosting a Great British Tea Party which includes a pre-show drinks and canapé reception and ticket to Pack Up Your Troubles for £25.
