CURVE AND DE MONTFORT UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCE CONTINUED COLLABORATION
Curve is delighted to announce its continued collaboration with Leicester’s De Montfort University; a partnership that will offer students and graduates work experience and educational placement opportunities within the theatre and build upon the two organisations successful relationship of the last 3 years.
The announcement comes after a record year for Curve which saw a surge in visitor numbers and an increase in turnover to £7.8m – Curve’s highest figure since opening in 2008. The theatre’s commitment to working with and producing work for diverse communities has also been recognised in 2015 with an award for The Promotion of Diversity at the UK Theatre Awards.
One of the first projects to evolve as part of the new partnership agreement has resulted in De Montfort University student, Emma Moss, being employed as an Assistant Stage Manager for the opening of Curve’s production of The Witches, directed by Curve Artistic Director Nikolai Foster, in Hong Kong, a project that links directly to De Montfort University’s Global Programme.
Other projects within the new agreement include DMU student access to Curve’s production of Wipers, including workshops with the play’s writer Ishy Dinn, cast and creative team. Also, in a bid to demonstrate the art of business within the arts, Curve Commercial Director Alister De Ternant will host a presentation to students from De Montfort University’s Business, Marketing, Public Administration & Management courses with one lucky student being offered a work placement within the Curve’s commercial team.
Curve Commercial Director, Alister De Ternant said:
“Our continued partnership with De Montfort University means that students and graduates have the opportunity to get involved with both the creative and commercial aspects of Curve. From our co-productions with Performing Arts students, work placements for Marketing & Business students and work on social issues with History students, the commitment between Curve and De Montfort University students offers essential experience that is second to none.”
The collaboration agreement will run for the next two years and will include co-productions between Curve and De Montfort University as well as work placements, exhibitions, show sponsorship and inductions for the university’s prestigious Festival Management Course.
Lynette Williams, Development Officer for DMU’s Strategic Partnerships and Events Office, said:
“I am delighted we are continuing this prestigious partnership with one of the UK’s most successful and dynamic regional theatres. The benefits to our students will be huge. Like Curve, DMU continually strives to push boundaries. Offering students from a huge range of academic backgrounds the opportunity to work with some of the finest professionals in the world of theatre, gaining them essential experience, is certainly doing that. I’m looking forward to our students enjoying another exciting two years of opportunities with Curve.”
