Carol Leeming MBE to join Curve at Resident Assistant Director

Curve has announced the appointment of international multi-award winning artist Carol Leeming MBE to join the theatre’s artistic team as Resident Assistant Director.

Beginning later this year, Carol will support Curve’s Artistic Director Nikolai Foster on Made at Curve productions such as My Beautiful Laundrette and West Side Story. Carol will also work with the theatre’s Learning and Artist Development teams to assist with behind the scenes events, education packs and supporting new local talent.

An elected Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts, earlier this year Carol received an MBE for her contribution to arts and culture in Leicester as a poet and playwright. A Leicester local, she is most recently known for her choreopoems The Loneliness of the Long Distance Diva, which featured as part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad and Love the Life you Live…Live the Life you Love, both of which were performed at Curve.

Speaking about her appointment, Carol said:

“I am absolutely over the moon, thrilled to be joining the brilliantly talented welcoming Curve Team. I am so looking forward to working in this stunning iconic theatre. Curve puts Leicester, and East Midlands, at the forefront of excellent culturally diverse theatre making, nationally and internationally.  I have always championed Leicester and our region, for its artistic contribution, particularly its innovation, and we are experiencing a real growth in creativity and achievements.

“It’s wonderful for me at this time, to be granted the opportunity to also to assist, such an acclaimed inspirational Artistic Director as Nikolai Forster and the Curve Team, to work on productions, and also encourage new voices and performers, to collaborate with a whole range of diverse artists. I have seen the amazing work produced at Curve, I am therefore truly delighted to be part of such a successful forward thinking organisation.”

Carol most recently worked with the theatre on its Made at Curve production of Memoirs of an Asian Football Casual as Voice Coach, helping to give the drama its distinctive Leicester feel. At Curve’s 10th birthday celebration concert Curve Live!, Carol performed her own poem written about the theatre to 1,500 people.
