curve announces full line-up for 10th birthday inside out festival 2018
Leicester’s Curve theatre has announced details of its upcoming Inside Out Festival 2018, which celebrates the astonishing diversity of new and emerging artists in the East Midlands.
From Wed 17 to Sat 27 Oct, Curve’s theatres and public spaces will be home to an eclectic programme of the region’s hottest artistic talents, including music sessions, panel events and performances.
Leading Inside Out this year will be a production of award-winning playwright Ché Walker’s The Frontline (17 – 20 Oct). The drama will be performed by graduates of Curve’s new actor training programme New Theatre Talent, which has been supported by the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation. Set in London, The Frontline tells 12 emotional and thought-provoking stories of people living on the margins of society and will be directed by Curve’s Associate Director Suba Das (Pink Sari Revolution, Sukanya).
As the theatre celebrates its 10th birthday this year, audiences can enjoy a range of new productions at the festival including Curve Breakthrough artist Rachael Young’s Grace Jones inspired Nightclubbing (18 – 19 Oct), a one-woman piece focused on bringing the voices of women, LGBTQ and people of colour to the fore. Drama comes in the form of I Dare You (27 – 27 Oct), a new play about love, family and trauma, written by Tom Powell and directed by Curve Breakthrough artist Beth Shouler.
The festival will conclude with a Diwali-themed Family Day (27 Oct), including free foyer activities around the theatre for all ages, performances of the interactive Hanuman Moves a Mountain and classical Indian dance from Nupur Arts’ Yuva Nartan, including internationally-acclaimed and award winning dancers.

“We are in the middle of our 10th birthday celebrations and it is exciting to announce this year’s explosive Inside Out Festival line-up. Theatre is all about looking to the future and this festival does this brilliantly, embracing the turbulence and political uncertainties of our times.
“Our fearless artists and theatre-makers are tackling some of the world’s major current issues – men’s mental health in Jack Britton’s Mighty; feminism and equality in a post- #MeToo world with Rachael Young’s performance of Nightclubbing and the return of Elaine Pantling’s Alice in Her Shoes. All this in the centenary year of women’s right to vote and with talks and panels throughout, it’s a jam-packed festival where audiences will be entertained, challenged and inspired to consider the world in a different light.
