Synopsis
‘Goodness is something chosen. When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man.’
Anthony Burgess‘ dystopian masterpiece, A Clockwork Orange (1962) takes place sometime in the foreseeable future in a capital city where Nadsat (the language of the teenager), resounds and the urge to destroy, beat, steal and commit mayhem is rife.
Alex commits one act of violence too far and his fate is in the hands of his prisoners. The price of freedom is to be brainwashed but is this ethical and can a person really be reformed without choice? A frenetic re-telling of a cult contemporary classic, fusing Beethoven with balletic violence, this stage adaptation is directed by Curve Resident Director Julia Thomas (RTYDS Director Our Day Out), and performed by students from De Montfort University.
