Join us to celebrate Black History Month with a vibrant and exciting Scratch Night on Friday 18th October. We will be showcasing different artforms and celebrating work in progress from local theatre makers and artists from Global Majority backgrounds.

This is a FREE opportunity, but places are limited so please book early!

Our performances and artists are:

DANCE WHATEVER AGE! by Angel Dance Academy
Angel Dance Academy is a dance group founded by Angela O’Neill in 2021. It is designed to promote health and well-being by bringing people together in the name of love, music and dance! The members range from age 35-62 and they will be performing 2 dance routines- An African dance mix and a Dancehall mix.

AFROPOLITAN by Man from X productions
Afropolitan are a vocal/dance music initiative consisting of live instrumentation vocals and dancers. Fusing traditional African instruments with modern synthesisers and electronic drum machines, Afropolitan perform commercial dance songs such as ‘Motherland’, ‘Party until it’s morning’ and ‘I miss you’ that aim to instantly get you on the dance floor.

Nataylia Roni is multifaceted, the playwright, librettist & lyricist of this piece. Recently returned from New York with the candela writers fellowship. This multigenerational fantastical nonfiction solo show includes themes of Identity & Love. Using Monologues, Songs & Spoken Word to tell the story. An Excerpt was long listed by The Evening Standards Netflix Stories Competition.

A GIRL OF GLORY by Lena Ngoudjo

Lena Ngoudjo is a multidisciplinary artist woven by her obsession with undressing the raw beauty of the bare self. Playing with the juxtaposition that strains from the duality of life, with its indescribable joys and continuous pains.

‘A GIRL OF SUFFER & GLORY’ is a poetic monologue of a black woman’s journey into self-understanding through the discombobulated yet sometimes merging memories of her adolescent self.

Paired alongside Lena’s poetry is the bustling sounds of producer ladé who creates abstract beats, bringing her sampling of obscure and diverse music to craft immersive, genre-blurring soundscapes.

PATTERN-ITY by Company Apidae
Company Apidae and their developing work “Pattern-ITY” strives to serve as a commentary on the generation trauma past down from parents of immigration. It’s tackles themes of anxiety, discovering and displacement of identity and the pressures that 2nd generation migrants face in todays society. The references of Breakin and hip hop movement language serve to provide a harsh contrast to the otherwise contemporary flow of the show, showcased in its movement technique and musical direction; reflecting the cultural traditions passed down to 2nd generation migrants, that might not always be understood by a western society.

BEACHES BARBIES AND BAKERIES by Apittame Arts
Beaches, Barbies & Bakeries, written and performed by Imani Wenham follows Ines, a young girl from the Carribean, as her family relocates to England under promises of a better life. The story contrasts her idyllic Caribbean childhood with the harsh, cold realities of immigrant life in England, exploring themes of displacement, family tension, and cultural identity.

MASKS by Studio Galiant
A work in progress about an artist who goes to draw his final piece but has a painters block – struggling to identify the problem, a journey down memory lane begins to crack the mask, allowing him to question who sculpted his? A one man piece about identity, masculinity, society and how to be feminine in a culture which only allows you to wear the mask that has been created to please others.
